Prescribed - Controlled Burn
General Requirements
- Check that a Burn Ban is not currently active.
- Create directions to the burn location and plan emergency access to the burn site.
- Before burning, notify the Fredericksburg Fire Department at 830-990-8793 (and press "1") of your plans to burn.
- Burn only outside the corporate limits of a city or town.
- Burn only when the wind or other weather conditions are such that smoke will not present a hazard, nuisance to others or affect road / highway visibility.
- Begin burning no earlier than 1 hour after sunrise, end burning same day, and no burning later than 1 hour before sunset.
- Weather conditions must be such that smoke will dissipate (winds of at least 6 mph - and no faster than 23 mph).
- The burn site must be physically supervised at all times during active burning.
- Burn supervisor must have immediate access to a telephone at all times should the burn get out of control and you require immediate Fire Department response.
