Mission Statement: Revised January 24, 2017

  1. The Veterans Council of Gillespie County membership will consist of local Veteran’s Organizations with 1-2 representatives from each organization.
  2. The Council will hold quarterly meetings to coordinate and support Gillespie County veteran’s events and functions to include: annual Memorial Day Ceremony and placement of Flags on Veteran’s Graves and Veterans Day events. Other events as identified may be: Flag Day, POW/MIA.
  3. The Council will identify Veteran needs in the community and coordinate with local assistance agencies to provide assistance to Veterans as needed.
  4. The Council will support the continuity of the Gillespie County Veterans Service Office, to ensure that veterans benefits services are provided by Gillespie County.
  5. The Council will foster and support the mission of each veterans organization and promote the sharing of information and ideas to provide better service to Veterans.
  6. The Council will promote and support the Gillespie County Honor Guard, which provides military honors at a veteran's graveside funeral.
  7. The Council will promote and support the South Texas Health Care System to ensure that VAMC Kerrville remains open and provides a high level of medical services.
  8. The Council will support the activities of the Fredericksburg High School Navy JROTC program, and include them in local veteran’s events and promoting volunteer drivers to assist cadets with the Holiday Flag program.
  9. The Council will promote and support the activities of the Army National Guard, Charlie Co., 1-141 Infantry in Fredericksburg.  
  10. May participate/assist local organizations who provide assistance to veterans and their families.
  11. Council will serve in an Advisory capacity for Veterans issues in Gillespie County to the Gillespie County Commissioners Court. No County Funds will be required for the Veterans Council.
  12. Recognized by the Gillespie County Commissioner’s Court as a representative voice of the veterans of Gillespie County on 02/08/2016.
